Loring Timing Association Announces 2011 Event Date

Loring Timing Association Announces 2011 Event Date

Limestone, Maine will once again become the fastest place in America for one weekend in 2011. The Loring Timing Association has announced that their 2011 event will be held on July 15-17, 2011. This is great news as the previous dates have caused conflict with Bonneville Speed Week.

The course at the former Loring Air Force Base is unique amongst paved venues in North America because competitors have a 1.5-mile acceleration zone as opposed to the mile offered at Maxton, NC and Goliad, Texas. The course is recognized as being the smoothest LSR venue outside of Bonneville by virtually everyone who has run down it.

We attended the 2010 event and had a great weekend. More than 4,000 spectators showed up to watch more than 100 competitors make runs down the course and they were privy to some great action. Motorcycles in the 270mph range and a bunch of cars hauling more than 200mph of mail always makes spectators happy.

Well, the moose that kept wandering on the course was kinda pissed, but he gets the run of the place the other 51-weeks of the year, so he can deal.
