Maybe A Mini-Me? The Flare Witch Project Rambler Is One Of The “Hot Wheels Legends” Picks!

Maybe A Mini-Me? The Flare Witch Project Rambler Is One Of The “Hot Wheels Legends” Picks!

Hot Wheels, that gateway drug that seduces little kids into the world of automotive obsession 97 cents at a time, is celebrating their 50th anniversary this year with a contest, the Hot Wheels Legends. The rundown is simple: over the course of the year, there are fifteen scheduled stops across the United States where people are encouraged to bring out their machines and to compete for selection as that show’s winner. The car that is deemed worthy by the judges moves on to the 2018 SEMA show for the final round of judging, and the winner in Las Vegas gets their ride immortalized in 1:64 scale goodness.

Hot Wheels judges are looking at three main factors: Authenticity, Originality and Garage Spirit. The authenticity part is simple: which car simply screams “real-life Hot Wheels”? Originality is also easy…with 25,000 individual Hot Wheels already made, they don’t want to rehash a model that they’ve already got in the back catalog. And finally, there is the garage spirit, the car that was built with love in the garage with the owner having at least the lion’s share of the elbow work in the creation of the ride.

Our friend Suzy Bauter’s “Flare Witch Project” Rambler American wagon recently got the nod at the Nashville stop, and Donut Media gave it a look over afterwards. We know those guys dig the car, they have been all about it since they saw it at Spectre Performance’s booth at SEMA last year. And we’re all about the car too, and have been since we saw it pre-paint. But Suzy is going to have some competition for this contest…another one of our favorites, PJ Burchett’s “Cruisin’ Cone” International Metro ice cream van, is in the running too!
