Memphis International Raceway Takes on Water, Facility Opening Delayed

Memphis International Raceway Takes on Water, Facility Opening Delayed

In more race track news, Memphis International Raceway is currently fighting the same flooding that so many places in the in the country’s heartland are fighting. There is water on the property, but from the photos we have seen, it does not appear that the water has reached the race track yet. The track has a new lease on life after being closed by Dover Motorsports, the former owner, in October 2009.

The new ownership group is made up of the same guys that brought Palm Beach International Raceway back from the brink and transformed the place into a world class facility, so the desire and experience is there, unfortunately, so is the river, currently.

The IHRA is going to have a Nitro Jam at the track late in the 2011 season and initially the ADRL was planning on an event, but it was later decided that the track management would still be rehabing the facility at the time the event was planned for.

We hope the best for the track because it’ll employ a lot of local people, and fill a large void for a much needed racing venue in the greater Memphis area. For better or worse, we’ll keep you updated in the water level and the track’s progress toward reopening.
