Memphis Motorsports Park to be Auctioned on December 14th

Memphis Motorsports Park, the former NHRA National event drag strip and circle track racing complex is going to the auction block. The track has been closed since 2009 when parent company Dover Motorsports declared that the place was bleeding so much money it was better to close it than attempt to operate it on a weekly basis. Dover is also the parent company of the recently closed Gateway International Raceway located in greater St Louis.

No reserve is listed but we’re guessing that the number resides in the two million dollar range. While we’d like to believe that some drag racing person will scoop it up and revive as a race track, there is an equally good chance that someone from the real estate world, an industrial developer, or even the train companies will be on hand to drive the bidding up.

We’ll keep you posted on the auction results, but unless there is a dark horse (rumors are floating that a sheik currently involved in drag racing is interested in the facility, but that has not been confirmed) the place may be in trouble. Hell, just reopening the place will take a pile of money.

Wanna buy a drag strip? We’re in for 10 bucks.
