Missed the Memo: News Story on the

Published the same day that the results from the RM “Icons of Speed and Style” auction became widespread knowledge, this piece from the Bloomberg News Service touted the awesome rising value of collector cars. Ironically, the auction results from RM were in stark contrast to the claims in this piece.

Brief mention is made of a “25%” decline for iconic muscle cars like the Hemi ‘Cuda, but from what we saw on the results page of the RM auction, that 25% is short by another 25 to 30% and in come cases more.

Logically it would seem that it’s not just domestic muscle cars that would take a value hit, but this cheery piece seems to indicate that as long as you are not holding onto your L88 ‘Vette or LS6 Chevelle, you’re sitting on a gold mine.

We’ll not soon be in the market for a Bugatti, Dusenberg, or Delahaye, so maybe these guys are right and they’ll never lose value. Wonder if anyone will have the stones to put one on the block and test that theory?
