More Gearhead History – Killer Ads From the Pages of Sports Car Graphic Magazine Circa 1970/71

Since we’ve had such a great response to our old drag racing ads and vintage magazine ads recently, we dove face first back into the massive archive (which my wife calls the, “Lohnes Institute for Drag Racing and Hot Rodding History”) and surfaced with a couple copies of Sports Car Graphic magazine.

This book was around from the mid 1960s right through 1971 when it was killed off by Peterson Publishing. Sports Car Graphic was focused on foreign cars, sporty cars, and general rabble rousing. The magazine has a great voice for the era and really stands as a great time capsule of the time when there were an incredibly array of cars available to the consumer. It was really an amazing time for people into any type of car whether it be as muscle car or a foreign sports car.

The magazine was never shy about sharing its opinion and regularly panned the hell out of Mustangs and Corvettes while signing the praises of Saabs, Renaults, and other weirdo cars.  They really liked taking the government to task about the regulations that were being passed during that era and had no problem calling ’em like they saw ’em. We have a virtually complete set of those magazines. These ads came from two copies in the 1970/71 time frame.

Enjoy this automotive time travel!
