More Good Strip News: Work Underway At Arizona’s Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park

(Photo: Arizona Auto Scene) – The dudes over at Arizona Auto Scene have been the leading source of news and information about the closure, rebirth and renovation of what was formerly known as Firebird Raceway and is now known as Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park. They are reporting that the renovation of the facility has begun with some cosmetic work to the tower, renovations to the lake that serves the water sports community, infrastructure improvements like the replacement of a main power line that is trenched under the facility and other projects of that nature. Track president Dick Hahne is overseeing all of this work and promises updates to the racing surface itself as part of “Phase 3” in the project plan. If you remember, Cruz Pedregon mentioned that the track looked akin to a “runway in Afghanistan” during an ESPN broadcast earlier this year. While that description may have been on the theatrical side, it is clear that the surface needs a pick-me-up and apparently the management knows that.

Like our story on Accelaquarter Raceway yesterday, this is happy news and even more so for the local racers who were to be left without a strip and race cars with no where to use them. No finish date is given in the story so we’re not sure when the place is going to re-open but we do know that the NHRA is scheduled to be there next Spring, so when the 2014 schedule is released at Indy, we’ll take careful note to see if Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park is on it!

Glad to see it coming back. I live 20 minutes away. I’m retired. I’m board. I offer any help I can during and after the renovation. This Honey Do list is killing me !
