The battle royale between the Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro continued in earnest through the month of July, 2010, with the two in a virtual dead heat for sales during that time period. Only three stinkin’ cars separated the two pony cars. It is great news that there is a sales battle to begin with, after that it is all about your brand loyalty as to which car you’re pulling for.
The Camaro still has a large volume lead on the Mustang for the course of the year with more than 6,000 Camaros than Mustangs leaving dealer lots. Ford has changed its fortunes in this fight with the early intro of the 2011 Mustang and its gutsy V6. Sure, the Camaro’s sixer is a virtual push performance-wise, but Ford has done the better job of selling the performance of the six-cylinder model.
In typical fashion the Dodge Challenger is bringing up the rear with 3,695 cars sold (basically half of the other two with respect to sales). We’re not sure if that’s what Dodge had planned for volume, but given the car’s almost total lack of advertising and media exposure when compared to Mustang and Camaro, it seems about right.
The hottie V6 pony cars are suddenly interesting to us, and apparently lots of other buyers out there.
Will Mustang make a late inning rally to win the sales war or does Chevrolet have a trick or two up their sleeve? Only time will tell.
