Mustang Outsells Camaro for 2009

Mustang Outsells Camaro for 2009

In the July 2009 issue, Car and Driver magazine announced that the Mustang had won the Pony Car wars in terms of performance, even with more than a hundred less horsepower then the Camaro. It looks like the buying public agreed, since the 2009 numbers are now in, and the Mustang beat the Camaro in total sales. Not by much, however.

According to numbers released yesterday, there were 66,623 Mustangs sold, and just 5,005 fewer Camaros (for a total of 61,618). The Camaro had a big spike in sales near the end of the year, but Mustang recovered in November. It was a close race.

In 2010 there will be a Camaro convertible introduced while the Mustang picks up the new 5.0 engine late in the year as well as a new V6. It will be interesting to see how this fight continues.
