On Thursday NASCAR announced that they would change the way that restarts are handled during their races. They will now place the first and second place cars side by side when the green flag is thrown and the whole field will be double file.

The drivers are in favor of the change as they believe it will make for cleaner restarts and allow the faster cars to avoid slower lap traffic, especially later in the races. NASCAR claims that this change is being made at the behest of fans, which may be code for, “We hope that more people will watch on TV this weekend after announcing this rule change which may make things more exciting.” That’s what our decoder ring says anyway.
