Evolution is a cool thing, especially when it comes to the mechanical end of hot rodding. The new TCI® AUTO-X GM LS 4L60E Transmission Package represents some of that evolution and it does so with cool technology the company has developed themselves. See, engine braking is a vital part of running a fast autocross or road race car. The ability to use gearing and compression to your advantage is key in getting a car hauled down to make corners in the quickest and smoothest way possible. To this point, the default mechanism to getting those results was to run a manual transmission. TCI has decided to break the mold with this new 4L60E transmission that is designed specifically for LS powered machines of all stripes and 1998-2002 F-bodies specifically. The best part may be the fact that this is a Clark Kent/Superman situation. When you just want to cruise down the road and let the trans do its thing you slip it into Overdrive. When you want full control from the paddle shifters you stick it in manual mode and go to town.
Modern cars have amazing automatic transmissions and the aftermarket has understood how powerful and helpful that technology could be to the pro touring world. TCI’s entry into this realm is notable for sure. You can use a TCI converter of any stall with this transmission or you can run a stock converter if you wish (why you’d wish that we don’t know but it is an option!). As you can see in the image below, the package comes with the transmission, a cooler, the controller, the cool paddle shifter, a converter (if you wish), fluid, a dip stick, and just about everything else you need to get yourself onto the road and to the autocross.
You get the comfort and convenience or a performance automatic packaged with the ability to exercise control over shifts that no other automatic provides and all of this WITH ENGINE BRAKING. Yes, this is a big deal and yes, you should read all the info from TCI Automotive below!
