If you are a long time dilligent reader of BangShift, you’ve seen videos or photos from the famous Powercruise events in Australia and New Zealand. The events are held at race tracks and feature everything from cruising to massive burnout contests. They are wildly popular down under and now the company is looking to bring the fun to the USA.
According to the Powercruise website, they have their sights set on three US venues to start with. Brainerd International Raceway in Minnesota, Watkins Glen, NY, and Road America in Wisconsin. Those are three big facilities with plenty of places to burn tires and raise hell.
The shows look like a more hardcore version of a Goodguys show or something like the Car Craft Summer Nationals. The flag drop drags, burnouts (Aussie style), and “Miss Powercruise” contest all sound good to us. Australia and New Zealand both have lots of gearheads, and as you’ve seen int he videos we have posted, they love to get wild behind the wheel of their junk.
Being that we’re blessed to live over yonder in the USA and there are lots of events and shows we can attend all season long, the guys may have a tougher time attracting the audience and attention that they are looking for in a market as saturated as this one.
That’s not a shot, just an observation on our part. From the looks of it, the events are a riot and any excuse to fry tires down to the cords and not get in trouble for doing it rules in our book.
So are you interested in checking out one of these events? We are.
