Here’s all I’m going to say about the ad: Seeing this 1983 AMC Eagle converted into a utility seriously makes me picture the Chevrolet Avalanche, which could be a credit to legendary AMC designer Dick Teague’s ability to build cars that, even with a shoestring budget and maybe a prayer, somehow were forward thinking…even if they were ahead of their time. The other thing I’ll mention is that even if this vehicle is from Palos Park, Illinois (a Chicago suburb), it looks more like something from a little more south, like maybe Grand Tower. If this thing really was meant for some kind of Central America trip, I’ll eat my hat.
From the ad: “Rare rust free EAGLE. Solid all around but it does have dings and the hood works well and latches but doesn’t sit flat all the way. It has diamond plate bolted in all around. The motor fires right up and idles well after having replaced the carburetor I realized that the old gas , which I’m trying to use up was the main culprit. When I use fresh gas from another fuel tank she runs much smoother. The motor is a bit noisey but it’s probably the lifters after sitting for years although it’s better when warmed up.I did notice that it seems to run out of breath around 55 mph which is most likely the old gas or a fuel filter. She peels rubber in four wheel drive when I took off in my driveway. It has no radio. The seats are stained as shown in the photos and the carpet is worn through under the drivers feet. The speedometer cable may need replacement. Since it’s almost 40 years old and I don’t know the previous owners it should be expected to have issues that I’m not aware of.”
So far, nothing out of the ordinary, but what about that ute conversion? Keep reading: “Rare and very interesting Eagle special build that was to be a beach buggy or surfer SUV. It was built to be used in Central America but their import laws may not allow it so I have to sell it here or part it out. Its had so many parts replaced, rebuilt or serviced because you don’t find these vehicles anymore up here let alone in Central America. If you have any questions or ideas let me know at (phone) I can provide pictures as I haven’t been able to upload my photos, when I figure out how to upload I’ll do so ,but I can also try and email them to you. Note; the shiny wheels from my 07 Dodge Nitro are for showing how much nicer the Eagle looks with different wheels and bigger tires and aren’t part of the he sale”
What do you think, guys? Would a little clean-up work do the trick, or is this bird dead?

I’ll go 400 for the wheels and tires, or 300 if they are still mounted to the car.
Holy body flex batman.
-1st. People should have to get a permit to buy diamond plate. I’ve seen more diamond plate abuse than spray paint abuse (though they probably go hand in hand
-2nd. “Rare special build” There is no rarity of idiots with sawzalls, if it was remotely well done it would be very rare indeed. Eagle wagons are also not rare.
-3rd. AMC cars can and were imported into South America, most countries in the region have extremely lax automotive import laws compared to the US.
My poo looks better that that thing.
There’s a certain amount of butt ugly that just won’t buff out.
This is WAY past that line. Kill it with fire!
