Scrapple, Your Guide To The “meh”-Worthy News: This Week, Honda Goes Junkyarding, Turning A Prius Into An R.V., And More!

There’s nothing like the smell of the greasy, heavily-fried leftovers on the skillet to whip up an appetite, is there? We scrape it up, slap it onto some cheap toast, and throw it in front of you with a bottle of hot sauce at the ready. This is Scrapple…eat up!

1. Honda goes junkyard raiding for old Takata airbag parts

honda airbag explosion

Honda is actively raiding junkyards for Takata-sourced airbags that may still be out in the public, buying them up before the exploding little time bombs cause any more deaths than they are already accused of. Currently, the total damage for the Takata airbag recall worldwide now stands at a rough count of 36 million cars worldwide.

2. There’s something about the Prius RV that just doesn’t look…I dunno…family-friendly?

prius rv 2

It’s called the Prius Relax Cabin, and they sell for about $50,000. It exists because Japan is obsessive about maximizing the most features out of the least amount of space, and as much as I don’t want to say it, at least while you are inside the car, it looks pretty well-done. The roof is 80″ tall, so there is standing room, there’s 100v power for a microwave and fridge, and according to Jalopnik, who found the car, it sleeps three…or, in other words, I might be comfortable. There is just one problem with the Relax Cabin: it looks like it’s getting perpetually teabagged. That’s not a good look for a $50,000 Toyota Prius.

3. “Rolling Coal” banned in New Jersey…again.

rolling coal dork

New Jersey just passed a law that makes “rolling coal”…specifically, either altering the emissions and fuel systems of a diesel truck to blow smoke or the act of blasting smoke in or at traffic or people…illegal. Though there have been laws on the books addressing the defeat of emissions equipment in Jersey for years, addressing the moronic behavior behind “rolling coal on someone” is a nice touch. All of this kicked off after New Jersey State Assemblyman Tim Eustace got rolled while driving a Nissan Leaf, and this is just the start: a similar bill in Illinois would smack offenders with a $5,000 fine.

4. Ford found a problem with their shaft…

2015-F150-Ford-025

Their steering shaft, you perverts. It’s a precautionary recall issued by Ford after they discovered that 12,328 F-150s were built with an upper I-shaft that was improperly riveted into place. If that I-shaft were to separate, there goes the steering, truck bursts into flames, etc. After last year, you know that drill. Ford is looking for the 5,600-plus trucks that have made it into private hands, and will inspect and/or replace the upper I-shaft at no cost to the customer. The rest of the trucks? They hadn’t sold yet, and Ford is taking care of those vehicles.

5. Dear Chevrolet:

2016 chevrolet camaro

Will you just show us the Camaro already?! Making us wait for the first half of 2015 was bad enough, but strip-teasing the car in little bites is more frustrating than scrambled cable porn. Just show us already!

  1. Chevy Hatin' Mad Geordie

Wow! – Salvador Dali came back from the dead to design a Prius!

Cue Dali’s Car by the great Captain Beefheart….

The ‘ Captain ‘ … two thumbs up CHMJ …

and err … Phi Beta Zappa ! ( freak yer Greek baby )

Ahhhh … but you missed out on the biggest and the bestest news of the week Mctaggert .

That being …. that the sales of the dreaded Hybrids and EV’s are in the toilet … current owners are trading them in left and right for ICE’s … with the biggest joke .. and the best news being ..

The former Hybrid owners are noticing little if any difference in MPG between their former Hybrid and current ICE

    Proving once again

Hybrids …. are blatant pretense as well as a Dog & Pony .. Smoke & Mirrors show … that you and I … the tax payer … are paying for with all the Government subsidies / rebates etc on offer … for a technology … that does not work

Oh … and on the EV note … the ICE converts from EV’s to their new ICE’s are finding out how much more fun …. not to mention a hell of a lot less hassle ICE’s are in comparison to EV’s

( re; NYTimes WSJ and NBCFinancial articles this week )

Chalk another one up to the positive effects of low gas prices … REALITY … who’d of thunk it ! … 😉

I’m pretty sure in PETA’s world view thats ok . If it were the other way around though … well then they’d be throwing what for them passes as a ‘ fit ‘

For my PETA [ People Eating Tasty Animals ] .. well .. we’d prefer the whale was crushing the Prius into oblivion

I knew it was only a matter of time before these idiot rich kids with their stacks and train horns ruined it for actual diesel enthusiast. I only “roll coal” when pulling or racing, but these objective standards will make it much harder on people who actually care about making power. Modding a truck to make soot (incompletely burnt fuel) is dumb as hell, but the cops slinging out heavy duty fines don’t know the difference between a person who dropped thousands of dollars and man-hours to make tons of reliable power and a kid with a tuner and his dad’s work truck.

By the way . The … cough …. hack …. so called …. wheeze … ” New ” Camaro has been revealed in all its … errr …. mundaneness

” Much Ado About Nothing ” …. and the same old same old pretty much summing things up .

Oh … that and the fact that GM is now joining the ill conceived EcoSnooze fray by stuffing a Turbo I4 in the snout of the … urp .. ” New ‘ … Camaro

Once again Chevy following in Ford’s footsteps … in this case to its own eventual destruction . The only real question being …. who bails out on the Turbo I4 Pony Car debacle first ?

    Ford ? … or Chevy ?

Seeing as how its always Ford first … I’ll chose … Ford
