BangShift Project Files: A 1966 Chevrolet Bel Air Wagon That Is As Good As Gold

BangShift Project Files: A 1966 Chevrolet Bel Air Wagon That Is As Good As Gold

“Shelty” is the owner of this 1966 Bel Air six-passenger wagon, a second car that he has been playing with for a little bit. It’s not a $5000 Challenge car, but with a goal of being ‘done’ under $8500, it’s still could be considered a budget build. The Bel Air has hung around the Northeast for the majority of it’s life (evidence of being in New York for a bit of time was located in the car) but the body doesn’t show it…the floor pans needed only very minor repairs. The wheels and tires came with the car, and the color isn’t the original factory gold paint but instead a Chrysler color.

The engine is a Chevrolet mystery motor…no, not that Mystery Motor, but a kit bash of small-block Chevy that is just enough to move the car. While that will hopefully be replaced with a hotter build, the Powerglide that came with the car was sent packing in favor of a 700R4 overdrive transmission. The work progresses in stages but is heading towards a killer long roof cruiser.

Yeah 8500 doesn’t go too far. I’ve gotta count some figures but I’m afraid I may go over 8500, if I have not already lol
