Iron Trap 1933 Ford Project: Big Rocker Panels For This Channeled Flat Floor Hot Rod Build

In this episode about the 1933 Ford build the giant gap between the floor and the door sill is filled with custom rocker panels Matt is putting together. Because this car has a completely flat floor, and is channeled so far, it requires a very tall rocker inside in order to tie the whole body together and to make it look right. Matt explains why and how as he goes through this one and why they have changed their plan slightly on how to attach everything.

Matt at Iron Trap does some really cool stuff and is always fun to watch. His builds always make me want to build a 1930’s or 1940’s ride and this one is no different. This 1933 Ford is one that they bought as a pile of parts and along with all the other ’33 Ford parts he’s recently collected, and the stuff he’s had stacked up in the shop, he’s putting this one together. The wedge style channel job is something I dig and love the look of, and I think you will too.

Video Description

Now that the floor has been fabricated and is spot welded to the subframe, Matt can work on building rocker panels to help tie the A and B pillars to the floor, and give lots of strength to the body. The panels are constructed for 14 gauge steel just like the front section of the floor. After lots of tig welding, Matt has two rockers panels fitted which dramatically improved the strength of the 3 window body, Next we can focus on building a hoop that wraps around the back of the body to hold the b pillars in place and will hold the deck lid hinges in position.
