Project Car Spotlight: A Killer Stripper 1967 Chevelle 300

One of the neatest project cars in the BangShift.com universe is the 1967 Chevelle 300 of forum member 67pete300. The car is ultra clean, straight, and nice. We dig it more for what it isn’t than what it is. Devoid of virtually all options, it sports a straight six motor, three on the tree, bench seat, and little else. Hell, the person who bought this car new probably asked if he had to have tires on it.

We’ve been following the progress of the car for a couple of years now and Pete has done a great job keeping it updated with photos and stories. Like the projects of all us working stiffs, it is taking longer than Pete would like, but he’s doing everything right, and that takes time in itself.

We really respect the fact that Pete decided to keep the car powered by an inline six engine, although it is one that has been hot rodder to make more power and torque to bark the tires and spin the steelies. A 4bbl carb, Clifford intake, and worked over cylinder head will all contribute to the grunt of the torque making sixer.

Not that we would have chucked a rock at him, but swapping in a small block would have killed the whole vibe of this car. It is tough to resist the urge to take the “easy way” and quickly finish a project, but Pete has done it and we’re sure he’ll be way happy with the results. Then again, with the only option in the entire car being a dealer added AM radio, he may pine for a couple modern comforts while cruising. Nah!

The car is currently having some finishing touches done by a capable enthusiast mechanic. Pete did all the heavy lifting, literally, building and installing the engine. The fellow is just finishing it up so Pete can cruise in style come Spring time.
