Project Mongrel Update: Chassis Stiffening And Rollcage Fabrication Begin

When we saw the Urchfab was doing a body swap, we were immediately intrigued. Maybe it’s because I’ve done them myself, and maybe it was because everything he does is simple and yet clean and nice and fun to watch. Regardless, the idea of driving a Miata based Ford 100E has to also be on the list of why to watch as well. This little bastard promises to be a riot when done, because whether you want to admit it or not a Miata is one fine handling machine. Sure, we’d love to see it LS powered, but who are we to judge?

In this installment of project Mongrel, you’ll find Urchfab reinforcing the chassis legs up front, where the original structure has been removed ahead of the strut towers. This is being done in order to facilitate the tubular front structure that will replace the original and allow easier maintenance and mounting of the front of the 100E body. You’ll also find two videos on the roll cage in the car, and Urch has really outdone himself this time. This cage fits so nice and tight, it makes me want to get out and start cutting tubing for Cole’s truck.

So watch these, and learn something. Or just be inspired to get out and work on your own car now that winter is fast approaching.

Urchfab performs excellent metalwork, great tips and instruction, plus the videos are very entertaining. His ramp truck build is fantastic also.

    Chad R,
please write an article on all of the free carbuild youtube channels out there:
junkyard digs, haggerty barn finds, hoonigan, deboss, etc. List them out,
a quick info blurb & link.

Then us knuckleheads will chime in on others, to fill the free void caused by MToD. Thank you for the initial writeup on Urchfab weeks ago on Bangshift !
