Chad likes low riders and bagged cars. I like malaise-era sleds and rally cars. Brian…likes tow trucks. Sing it with me, kids: “One of these things just doesn’t belong here…” Nothing against Brutus the Tow Truck (or it’s predecessor, Goliath) at all, both vehicles are awesome. But it’s Brian’s agrarian tastes in vehicles that throws me sometimes. With Chad, shopping for him would be easy: some good Chevy engine parts and a free meal at Big Mama’s BBQ would take care of Christmas shopping. Brian, however, is more difficult. Sure, we know he loves his drag racing, but he loves his lumbering old trucks too, maybe even more so. Well, I think that I might have at least one solution that could solve this holiday dilemma: This 1969 Subaru 360-based tow truck!
It’s a tow truck that is big enough to fit Bruab, is small enough that theoretically, the boys could operate, is street legal, and much to Kerri’s relief, is only suited to pulling weeds out of the garden, not trees out out of the dirt, roots and all. And of course, it’s easier to keep the neighbors happy when there isn’t a large-by-huge truck holding the world’s heaviest piñata blocking the scenic views around his house. I think this will fit perfectly under the tree this year. He might think it’ll fit perfectly somewhere else, but remember, it’s the thought that counts!
Road legal in Oregon…?
so this is what you call when your golf cart stalls?
Power Wheels.
Subaru 360s are starting to gain in value, so this tow truck is actually pretty good value. I like it, it’s pretty cool, it’d be a neat conversation starter and probably a lot of people would get a kick out of it.
“GVW 26,000 oz.” Sounds about right.
It is kind of cute, even though I’ve got a hard time imaging it towing anything larger than a Yugo.
That is the coolest toy truck I’ve ever seen! It’s so detailed, do the cables and arms move and everything?
Needs a GSXR engine….
The local tow company here has a 1978 Honda Civic converted into a tandem rear axle wrecker. Its really neat, although useless for anything other then it being cool.
What’s that going to pull? My grandson’s peddle car?
The original Subarus weighed 960 lb. and were brought into Southern California in 1968.
The weight classification allowed them to be registered as motorcycles.
