When the SSC Tuatara speed record video hit the Internet, things exploded. This car stomped a mudhole through any record that Bugatti had, by a wide mile. This car was at aircraft speeds on the open road in Nevada. What was considered beyond belief was now here. Right? I mean, the video footage was there. Can you refute the data? Can you look at what the footage is showing and say that there is a failure, that there is a shred of doubt, that there was a mistake?

When you say that you’ve smacked the speed record as SSC did, you invite criticism. The record means much more than just a notch in a book somewhere. You don’t just say that you casually ran over 300 miles per hour in a road-legal car and go have a burger afterwards. So if the record isn’t dead-on accurate, verified, vetted and sealed in stone, it means…well, nothing. It’s just a number. And that’s the position that SSC, whether they like it or not, wound up finding themselves when the critics starting pointing out issues with the October 10th, 2020 record run.

SSC founder and CEO Jerod Shelby has issued a statement regarding the run, and the plans to re-run the record attempt, this time with everything in place so that nothing will be questioned, nothing will be left to chance. And he’s inviting the critics themselves to be present. Pay attention, folks…let’s see if the car can do it again.
