Early 1960s Pontiacs have a class all their own. In their time, not much was capable of hanging with them on the strip. The 421ci Super Duty engine was legend and having a street car sporting that plant with tri-power on top and a four-speed behind it meant that you pretty much owned the road. The cars were also fairly luxurious with nicely appointed interiors and shiny detail work.
The Catalina is a big car, one size up from the “mid-size” Tempest GTO that’s no Spring chicken either. Weighing in at nearly 4,000lbs, this big fellow relied on every ounce of torque the tried and true 421 could churn out. With the narrow bias ply tires on the rear, football field burnouts weren’t too tough, and deft feet working the gas and clutch were necessary to get these cars out of the hole without wiping out the tires.
This particular car is a top shelf example of the breed. Every inch has been repaired, restored, polished, and made as new. It would be awesome to cruise to shows and occasionally run it at the nostalgia events held at your local Dragway USA. The original buyer was obviously a fan of luxury as they opted for power everything, including vent windows and the upscale Ventura interior trim package.
We want it bad!
