We admire brute simplicity around here. Why? Because we live in a world that currently thrives on complication. Amazingly advanced systems that have taken performance on the street, the road course, the drag strip, hell, even the dunes and sky-rocketed it to places where no one could have ever dreamed it would get to. So when we see something that is simple, effective, fun, and fast, it makes us smile. Something like a 408ci Ford small block in a Fox-chassis Mustang backed by a Doug Nash 5-speed transmission is just about perfect for us in this year of 2021.
The video you are going to see was made on an early, maybe even the first pass with this combo in the owner’s car. At least that is what he says in the video’s caption. The car looks super clean inside and the engine has that crispy, angry, note that a high compression small block with a bunch of camshaft likes to make.
We didn’t run a stop watch on this run and as you’ll be able to tell, the car was turning the tire pretty hard early on in the pass but by the time this thing gets its legs under it and the driver powershifts the last couple gears, it is hustling.
Lastly, the Doug Nash 5-speed is one of the great and enduring speed parts in drag racing history. It’s strength, simplicity, and ease of service certainly make it a hall of fame caliber component!
Very cool. My counter says the run was in the 10.0 zone which is quick for a stick shifted NA small block. Well done.

Thanks for the article guys. That was the first pass with the Nash. Here is a 9.80 pass from later on in the season, car went a best of 9.68 at 140, n/a on pump fuel. Nothing better than shifting the Nash!
