Quiet whispers have turned into pretty solid information regarding a potential new land speed racing venue in Wilmington, Ohio, a city just down the road from Columbus, Ohio. This news comes at a time when the long standing ECTA home venue in Maxton, North Carolina enters the final season of life as a race track. If this comes to fruition, the “Wilmington Mile” would become the newest LSR venue in the country, bumping the 1.5-mile course at Loring, Maine off that perch.
We know very little about the specifics, but if our assumptions are correct, the action would be taking place at an air facility just outside of the Wilmington “metro” area. Other BangShifters have reported this place to be used as a cargo hub by private freight companies. They have also dug up the fact that the runways are 9,000ft and 10,000ft long respectively.
When we learn more we’ll report it. The initial reaction has been very positive from folks who found Loring and Maxton to be too far from home to venture. We’d have to guess that an Ohio LSR venue would draw a ton of cars.
Here’s a shot of the airport from Google maps.
