A 29 year-old mother of four was killed while taking a potential buyer on a test drive. Police claim that high speed was a factor in the wreck. The passenger sustained serious injuries, but reports do not indicate that they were life threatening.
Amy Thomas of Laguna Hills was pronounced dead at the scene after the 2003 Corvette she was driving hit a curb, then smashed into a tree, which then sent it into another tree before coming to a stop. In the passenger seat was an as yet unidentified man who was appparently interested in buying the Corvette.
Quoting from a story from the LA Times blog, police spokesman Jim Amormino said, “We don’t have an estimate of how fast [she was driving], but speed is definitely a factor.”
In the realm of senseless tragedies, this one may stand alone. We feel awful for the four children who no longer have a mom. Yet another perfect example as to why this type of driving is best left to the race track.
