Shop-a-holic: We Tour The Bat Cave Body Shop

The Bat Cave. That legendary spot that Bruce Wayne parked the Batmobile in. No one knew where it was or how to find it. That pretty much sums up the situation with an awesome body shop operation we got the chance to check out recently. The only difference is that certain people actually know how to find this place. Without a sign on the building or so much as a name on the door, this shop works on everything from pre-war luxury cars to vintage ’60s muscle machinery. Their work is concours worthy, and they have so much, they’d prefer we not pimp their name. Seriously.

Here’s what we can tell you. The two guys who perform their magic at this shop are named Chuck and Blair. They have painted serious cars that have garnered world record prices at auctions. Chuck has built four dead nuts altered-wheelbase Plymouth clones himself and Blair has been a Mopar freak for decades as well.

These guys are part Ed Roth and part Picasso. Their shop is smaller than you’d think and contains the basic tools of metal working artisans. We’d say that it’s a rare pair of dudes who are talented enough to bring an Auburn Boat-tail Speedster back to life at the same time they were building a bitchin’ whacked-out chopper for fun.

They painted the infamous Hack Job General Lee and were in the process of working on a real 1969 Camaro Z/28, building a 1968 Hemi Dart clone, stripping a 1957 Chevy Bel Air Convertible, bringing a rotted GTO back to life and putting the finishing touches on a late 1940’s Pontiac when we were there.

Sound insane? It was. Hit the link below for a full photo gallery tour of the shop. These guys rule all.
