Hotchkis Unveils New Bolt In Suspension Upgrades For 1964-1966 Mustangs! No Excuses For Sloppy Handling Anymore!

Hotchkis Unveils New Bolt In Suspension Upgrades For 1964-1966 Mustangs! No Excuses For Sloppy Handling Anymore!

The first generation Mustang is one of the most popular cars in the BangShifting universe, so when we got news that Hotchkis had developed a bolt in TVS suspension setup for them, we needed to share the news with you. With front coil springs, sway bars, new leaf springs, and bushings, this thing really has it all. The best part? There’s no need to bust out the welder or plasma torch as all of these parts have been developed to bolt right into existing holes. Having direct experience with Hotchkis products, the components will be top shelf and the results will be dramatic on the positive side.

I was super jealous of Chad earlier this year when he was able to attend a track day with the people at Hotchkis where they installed this suspension on the car in an afternoon. The event was held at Willow Springs and Chad said that the transformation of the car before the new components and after the new components was dramatic. Check out the photos below and then read the full release from Hotchkis to get the specifics, but this looks like the perfect way to turn your Mustang into a corner carver!

These before and after photos tell a pretty interesting tale!

HERE’S THE FULL RELEASE FROM HOTHCKIS!

Hotchkis Sport Suspension announces new bolt-on suspension system for 1964 ½ – 1966 Ford Mustangs that turn stock pony cars into corner-carving thoroughbreds.

Santa Fe Springs, Calif. (September, 2013) – Mustangs have always been America’s favorite pony car, but antiquated stock suspension derived from early ‘60s Falcons has always been a sticking point for Mustang fans that want to enjoy a spirited drive through a canyon or country road without seriously cutting or modifying their perfect pony – until now. Hotchkis Sport Suspension is proud to announce its new Total Vehicle System (TVS) for the 1964-66 Mustang that dramatically improves handling, driver control, safety and the overall fun factor. The TVS is engineered to install easily with basic hand tools and, unlike other systems on the market, does not require cutting or other permanent modifications. Systems for 1967-72 Mustangs are set to arrive shortly.

Hotchkis engineers spent hours on the track developing suspension components that were comfortable enough for the street but well tuned for track days, autocross events, or your favorite twisty roads. The result is razor-sharp handling and responsiveness without adversely affecting the ride quality of the car. Laying the foundation for the Mustang’s handling package are Hotchkis Sport Coil Springs up front and Sport Leaf Springs in the rear. The front coil springs provide a ½-inch drop with a stiffer 700 lbs/in spring rate while the rear leaf springs lower the vehicle 1 ½-inches with 180 lbs/in spring rates. This combination creates a more aggressive stance that lowers the vehicle’s center of gravity and improves front-to-rear weight distribution without compromising suspension travel and ride quality.

Most ’64-’66 Mustangs came equipped with either no front sway bar or a skinny single front sway bar from the factory, which did very little to control the car’s pronounced body roll. Working to keep this body roll in check, the upgraded, lightweight Hotchkis 1 ¼-inch (32mm) 4130 tubular steel front Sport Sway Bar delivers a roll stiffness rate of 740 lbs/in, comes with upgraded bushings and end links, and is a direct replacement for the factory bar. The new, adjustable 7/8-inch (22mm) DOM tubular steel rear sway bar has three levels of adjustment allowing you to set the rear roll resistance to 230, 280, or 325 lbs/in to match your driving style and tire setup. The sway bar kit includes premium mounting hardware including steel u-bolts, laser cut axle and frame mounts, polyurethane bushings, Grade 8 bolts, and TIG-welded steel “dogbone” end links with polyurethane bushings.

With this bolt on upgrade you can transform your Mustang in a single afternoon – unlocking the true handling potential of your car, especially when combined with the Hotchkis-Tuned 1.5 SPS Shocks by Fox Racing. Like all Hotchkis Performance suspension products, the ’64-’66 Mustang Total Vehicle System components are manufactured in the USA, come with all necessary hardware, and are finished in durable powder coat. It really doesn’t take too much to make a big transformation in them. Just lowering the UCA makes a night and day difference. Ask most guys who road race a vintage Mustang, they won’t run a rear bar. My 66 handles like it’s on rails.
