Mongoose 2: Matusek Pulls Wraps Off Of Vintage Tom McEwen Themed Wrap On Aeromotive Pro Mod!

Steve Matusek of Aeromotive is too damned good at keeping a secret. Throw Larry Larson into that statement too because the photos you see below were taken at Larson Race Cars. The secret that Steve was sitting on until literally minutes ago on Facebook was the fact that he was given permission to run this completely awesome tribute paint scheme that harks directly back to Tom McEwen’s 1970 Duster that rose to international stardom as half of the most famous rivalry in drag racing history. The Snake and the Mongoose story is so good that a feature film is in final production now and will debut in September. Steve got permission from all the parties involved to run this scheme and we think it is absolutely freaking awesome.

We’ll bring you more of the story behind this killer scheme in the coming days but for now, just sit back and look at how bad ass this pro mod looks! For us, the fact that it is a turbo machine and has a flat hood makes this work. Having that stripe run uninterrupted from the nose all the way to the tail is KILLER! There’s an amazing amount of history connected to this paint scheme and we’re sure that Steve is tickled to death to be flying these colors in 2013. Fans are going to freak when this car comes into the water box!

Now…the next question. If there is a Mongoose, is there a Snake?

The other thing that makes it work is the car is long and low like an old Funny Car.
    The question is,whos The Snake?

  2. Gary Smrtic

Of course, McEwen’s original flopper looked more like a stock Duster than this does a stock Mustang….and it seems rather sacriligous to put his livery on a FoMoCo body…

  3. Bob Domecq

Right you are, Gary. Would be tantamount of making a tribute car of one of John Force’s funnycars and putting it on a Challenger body; which is the car the SHOULD have been used here… 🙁

  4. The Outsider

While I’m not a big fan of the left-out-in-the-sun-too-long “melted” “pro” bodies, this livery scheme is bitchin! And it’s no sacrilige. It’s a tribute.

Too bad RoushYates, Aeromotive, and Larson don’t have a deal to run a more modern Ford in Unlimited at Drag Week . . . .
