DIY Tailgate Storage: This Is A Cool Way To Get More Room For Your Stuff, And It’s Cheap!

DIY Tailgate Storage: This Is A Cool Way To Get More Room For Your Stuff, And It’s Cheap!

I’ve built stereo subwoofer enclosures into tailgates before, and have built a few storage tailgates for work and maintenance trucks, but this simple and fun project is a cool way to get some extra storage in your pickup or suv. Using the space that is inside the tailgate is pretty simple and cool actually and I dig it. I’d even consider doing this to a pickup as long as you took water tightness into account and put a seal of some kind on it. This particular SUV happens to be a Land Cruiser, which has no window in the tailgate, but there are tons of other SUVs that are the same way and could probably be used for some simple and cool storage.

To me this is the perfect place to store lightweight items that seem to always be in the way or hard to get to if the back of the truck is already full of stuff. This storage solution makes perfect sense and I’m surprised that the OE manufacturers haven’t been doing more of this over the years.

I’m going to have to find something to hack up in the driveway so we can make something like this.
