I’ve never been much of a wood wheel guy, but Mustangs, Camaros, and more had them as options back in the day and they are sought after by many now. Of course you can buy wood grain steering wheels via some of the reproduction houses, but a hand crafted model like the one is this video is really a work of art and requires a lot of work to get right. If you ever wondered just how much work it really does take, then watch cause this isn’t an afternoon project. One thing to note, this is not an ultra complicated or fancy wood wheel. There are several features found in some of them that would make this even more complicated to build. But even with this one’s simple beauty comes the responsibility to make it functional as the steering wheel! Don’t forget that part of the whole thing.
You can clearly see other steering wheels going together in this video too, and based on the finished project, we’d say this isn’t his first rodeo. After seeing this, I think I could probably build one if I had a router and some time, but I have a feeling it looks a lot easier to make it nice than it really is. But everything worth doing takes some work, so who cares. I say someone on here should watch this, take apart some crappy old foam covered wheel, and make a new one out of wood. Right?
