How To Drop Your Own Axle: Fabricated JIG to Drop 1928 – 48 FORD Axles Part 1.

It sounds crazy to heat up a factory axle, especially one from the 20’s and 30’s, but the truth is that these were forged from good steel and this practice has been going on for 100 years. But you can’t just clamp this thing in your vice and get out the torch. I mean you could, but not if you want it to steer right and not wear tires weird. It’s a solid axle, so you have to build the right camber into it when you drop it or it is all going to be weird.

Check it out.

Video Description:

In this episode, we fabricate a complete jig to house early Ford I-Beam axles from 1928-48. The frame will help hold the axle while we use heat and a press to drop these in several heights to lower the front of your Hotrod. An age-old practice used for many decades, stemming back to the early 1940s. Come along and watch the trials and tribulations while we try and drop some Axles.
