A couple of days ago we featured a video from Hot Rod Jen that showed her striping and lettering the door on an old Chevy truck. It was cool to see all the techniques she used, so when we saw this How To pinstriping video from here we figured we needed to share. I can tell you that I have pinstriped before, but it has been a jillion years, and it was on a very small project. It turned out pretty good for my first attempt, but even though it wasn’t perfect it was really fun and I enjoyed doing it. I haven’t done any of that in years, but I certainly think that this is one of those things I’d like to pick up and try if for no other reason than to make some cool things to have hanging in the shop or on the walls in my office.
If you want to learn and see what it takes to pinstripe, then watch the video below. I will tell you that getting into pinstriping isn’t expensive at all. You’re talking about a couple of brushes and a couple of very small cans of paint and you can stripe to your heart’s desire while learning. Striping paint, aka lettering enamel, can be had for around $20 for a small can and you can get a kit with 2-3 brushes for around the same money. For $50 you can be striping, practicing, and learning. And even if you wanted to buy a whole kit that would have you ready to go out and pinstripe anything and everything, you can get into those for as little as $150 and could have a pretty comprehensive kit for $250-350. It’s not the tools and materials that make it valuable, it’s the skill to use them, and with practice and some good instruction, you can do it.
Check out HotRod Jen’s video below and we’ll bring you more content from here in the future as well.
