Hmmmmm. I mean, I own a car with some seriously nasty paint on it, but I have never ever considered just taking the crappy paint off of the thing. Until now. Hmmm. But my particular project isn’t the one that this video is aimed at. Nope, this is aimed at those cars that have had rattle can or primer paint put over the top of the paint underneath. If you want to get back to that paint underneath it is going to take some elbow grease, but it is possible and worth a try. Check out the video below to see the detail on how to do this, but here is the basics.
I’d test this out someplace not super conspicuous if you aren’t sure what the result will be. Basically what you want to do is to use a mild abrasive like 0000 steel wool, light scuffing pads, etc and wet them with some Pre Paint Prep and start rubbing on the paint you want to remove. Doing this slowly will result in the paint softening and being rubbed away. If you do this slowly and patiently you can remove the bad topcoat. Will it take a long time? Yeah. Will it be rad if you can bring back the old paint to make your car look like the survivor it is? Hell yeah.
Watch.
What a colossal waste of time to get back to ratty paint.
