People are often intimidated by the thought of welding sheet metal, but with the right settings and some practice, you can become proficient enough for just about any repair. When you spend the time to shape panels for a repair, and then take your time welding them in correctly, it would be a shame to ruin all your hard work by grinding a big groove into the weld or by adding horrible grinding marks to the new panel. Using the right tools and the right methods will result in a smoothly finished weld that is ready for some bodywork and paint without making your repair even harder than it has to be.
In this video, Fitzee will show us how he finished sheet metal welds and goes over the tools, the abrasives, and the methods he uses. Since Fitzee is one of our favorite sheet metal guys and is always full of great information and lessons, we know you’ll learn something here about what you should and shouldn’t be using on your own projects. Keep in mind that there are a TON of different tools and abrasives that will do the job, but that doesn’t mean they are all right for the job.
