I’ve always wanted to chop the top on something, but have always been afraid of ruining something good. But since I can’t afford anything too good, I figure I’m going to get myself some cool old 30’s sedan or something and chop that for my first time. Sure, I’d love to have something like this awesome 1937 Ford Coupe, but I can’t afford that and wouldn’t want to screw it up. With that said, watching this video sure makes me feel more confident in doing it, as this timelapse video really shows just what goes into making a chop look right, go together right, and function as if the manufacturer had it in mind the whole time.
This 1937 Ford is getting chopped 3 inches by Mike Bello at Bello’s Kustoms, and he’s truly a master. Just watch the way he deftly cuts the car, fits it back together, and shapes the corners to look like it has always been that way. You’ll dig it because it happens fast in the timelapse but still lets you see exactly what he’s doing to make each and every piece fit back together after cutting the whole top off the car.
Video Description:
In this time-lapse video, shot over the course of 3 weeks, you will see the tools and techniques used to create a nice flowing roof out of a 3 inch chop. This 1937 Ford gets the full treatment, including kustom window radiuses, garnish moldings, and sail panels. Everyone has their own way of doing it, but this is how Mike Bello does it.
Real talent on display. Now I know why I never attempted to do that kind of work.
