The Dweebs Dig It: Consumer Reports Picks Mustang Over Camaro, Challenger, and Others

Consumer Reports has picked the 2010 Mustang as the best sports car or coupe available per its testing, Reuters News Service has reported. It beat out the Camaro, Challenger, Hyndai Genesis, Subaru WRX, and 370Z in the Consumer Reports testing, done at the East Haddam, Connecticut, test center. As a side note, the geek skunkworks known as the Consumer Reports Auto Test Center is the former Connecticut Dragway.

As you have probably figured by now, we’re not Consumer Reports people when it comes to cars. Air conditioning units, radios, fine, but cars? Especially fun cars? Hell, no. We’ll let our hearts and personal tastes do the talking there. We’d go so far as to say that if you are basing your pony car buying decision on what the pocket-protector set feeds you for info, you are not suited to own a pony car.

It’s great news that this story is not about the three domestic cars getting crapped on by the foreign jobs involved in the test, that we must admit to being happy about. Running this very test ten years ago may have resulted in a totally different and pretty ugly outcome.

We’re pretty sure that every office has its “Consumer Reports guy” and he’s great to shoot the poop with on which electric carving knife to buy, but when he goes off on pony cars after reading this issue, tell him to put a sock in it.
