This 1973 Cadilac Caribou Was A Rich Man’s El Camino That We Want To Tow With

If you were a rich person in 1973 and you wanted an El Camino you did not ask Chevrolet to make anything special you went to a coach builder like Caribou in California to build you a kick ass version of the Elky in the form of a Cadillac. This 1973 Cadillac Caribou is awesome because it was one of less than six made that year from the custom coach building company.

While most of the car/truck/thing is steel the bed area is made of fiberglass. We applaud the work that Caribou did in forming the bed sides as gracefully as they did to descend from the cab and go all the way to the tailgate. Amazingly we have heard that these things were basically double the cost of the Coupe De Ville in 1973 which was already the most expensive car in the country.

We have long featured Caddy station wagons and other rigs here but at the end of the day if you were a really rich Caddy guy in 1973 you bought one of these to show off and to out run your pals. A lot of steel was eliminated for ‘glass so that is a win, right?

Caribou, carcass, corpse , cadaver …it’s a damn flower car. Are there tied downs a little closer than usual in the bed?.Does it come with a black suit?

Wow, haven’t seen one of these in over 50 tests. I actually remember when these came out (yes, I am old). I live in an area with lots of agriculture. There were stories of farmers showing up at the local Caddy dealership, laying down a wad of cash for one of these, tossing their shovels or whatever in the back and then driving off.
