This 1977 Pinto Cruising Wagon Is A Rare Survivor From The Dark Ages Of The Late 1970s

This 1977 Pinto Cruising Wagon Is A Rare Survivor From The Dark Ages Of The Late 1970s

We’re not sure what’s wrong with Chris Yocum, but we like it. Chris is the guy who sent us the tip on this 1977  Pinto Cruising Wagon that is for sale and the thing is about as perfectly awesome as one could expect from a cheaply made, 41 year old car! The Cruising Wagon model was introduced to the Pinto lineup in 1977 and the idea was to give people something smaller than a converted van to cruise in. Using the panel wagon version of the Pinto and adding two bubble windows along with vinyl graphics and a chin spoiler, the car looked the part of a 1970s hot rod. This one has the optional 93hp V6 engine in it which should tell you exactly how much of a hot rod it was.

It is kind of amazing how well this one has survived because we can only imagine the normal fate of a vehicle like this.  After the trendy look becomes uncool the car is worthless and it kind of gets passed around like a collection platter with ever more broke owners. Cars like this go from machines of desire to machines of ridicule pretty quick and during that period they are often destroyed. Someone protected this car and the results are evident here.

So who would want something like this? A kid who craved on in 1977, that’s who! As we have seen prices of 1970s car start to climb, expect to see stuff like this following the curve. It is the same story. People who wanted stuff as kids now have the money to buy it and as such, the supply/demand issue comes up and prices fly. We’re not saying that these things are investment properties but we are saying that you could make a couple of bucks on car like this down the road.

Man I’ve always loved these. Local dude had a red one with a wizard fighting a dragon mural on the sides back 79/80. Loved it then, love it now. I’d do a little 260 V8 in there and maybe some side pipes. What a bitchin little car!

My brother had a regular 76 wagon with the factory 2.8 V6. It received a V8 swap after too much nitrous going through that little six. LOL

I drove a green Pinto wagon to school once. ONCE! My friends busted my balls for days!

Always liked these wagons but just not a fan of the front end. Put on a ’71 nose and it would be perfect!
