It takes something serious for us to write about fuel economy. While we get that fuel economy is very important and has a place in the world of automobiles, usually that place doesn’t wind up at our doorstep without a serious reason for being important enough to feature. This Peugeot 208 BlueHDI diesel has such a reason: it recently completed 1,337 miles of roadway driving on Peugeot’s test track in France using only 11.3 US gallons of fuel for a rough MPG rating of 117.6 miles per gallon. How does that measure up? The distance was covered in 38 hours in a car that has the type of tricks used in eco or mild hybrid cars: low-resistance tires, light aero tricks and tuning. That’s it. The 1.6L diesel four and the five-speed manual normally is normally rated for around 74mpg, and even if you drove it like a typical driver, we imagine that the fuel economy has to be significantly better than what that self-absorbed dork in the Prius is seeing. It’s a shame we don’t get the Peugeot here, because for a daily beater, a small four-cylinder, five-speed hatchback that pulls MPG numbers out of thin air like that would make for a great little car. This is how you sell a small car: not on speed or purely on style, but on utility that makes sense. A weekend long-distance road trip on one tank of fuel? Yes, please.

Great job Peugeot!
Now that would make an excellent commuter car, fill up once a month!
Man…I really hate to say this, but that’s a pretty sharp looking little car. The lower picture with the better wheels looks really good.
I would drive it at that fuel mileage
