AJ Foyt is a racing legend. He can be spoken about with a straight face as one of the best race car drivers ever. He drove and won in just about everything, including IMSA prototypes, as shown in this video. We think it has one of the greatest post crash racing interviews ever caught on film.

The video and interview will remind you of why so many of us love racing, and why its current state of sanitized, near robotic drivers can not hold a candle to the greats of old. Realize that if any driver gave an interview like Foyt does in this clip, they would be hauled off by race officials and fined for their actions. Such a thought in the 1980s would have been met with laughter and derision.

Let’s be honest here. Auto racing is as much a contest of egos as it is a contest of speed and skill. The will to win cannot be denied as an important part of the puzzle and it can be argued that Foyt willed his way to many victories over the years. Stuff like you’ll see in this video makes us really yearn for a racing series that lets these guys take the gloves off and have at it.
