Know why Chad is boned for whatever weiner stuff he is going to post tomorrow? Because I have freaking Lee Majors and Fred Dryer as my lead off acts. Dryer played 12 seasons in the NFL (Chad, that’s the game with the oblong ball, where the big fellows run into each other) before going into the acting bizness. Fred was a defensive end and a very good one at that, playing in the Pro Bowl a few times and the guy still holds a couple of NFL records. Dryer’s best known role is as the limits-pushing cop Sgt. Rick Hunter in the series known simply as Hunter. Outside of his blazing hot co-star the best part of the show was the 1977 Dodge Monaco that he drove well into the 1980s. Frankly, I want a 1977 Monaco badly after watching this video. The car has larger than stock tires, dog dish ‘caps and the styling that Dodge ripped off from GM in the late 1970s but did a better job with.
One of these cars with a stroker LA motor would be the stuff. It seems that they are in short supply though as my eBay searching yielded a whole bunch of nothing. Hell, Hunter ate up a bunch of these cars as evidenced by the clip below where Freddy gives it his all chasing a bad guy in a Malibu only to have the chase end up in spectacular fashion….for the other guy.
Press play below to see a 1977 Dodge Monaco get all pissed off chasing a 1980s Malibu! Sideways tire smoking action!
How many of those Fury/Monaco’s do you think were destroyed in the 80’s in these shows? Brian, see if you can find a picture of Fred Dryers Caprice it looks like Buford.
Gotta love the non-locking E-brake!
I must have watched too mant of these cool cars get destroyed 30 years ago..this is one of the reasons i like 4 doors..the dark coloured stripped models, with steelies and dishes..
Beware of exploding cement
Show of hands please…who didn’t flip the air cleaner lid on Moms station wagon to get that great WWWWUUUHHHHH sound of every car on TV in the 70’s?
