Classic YouTube: The Monster Pontiac Trans Am From Norway

We say that we want all of the power in the world. We want all of the horsepower, all of the violence, everything that comes with it. Are you sure that’s what you really want? Think about it for a second. 200 horsepower is typical daily driver material. 500 horsepower is the beginning of what many consider entertaining. Many machines eclipse that right now. And that’s before we get to these heavily built, wildly modified cars that claim that magic four-digit horsepower figure easily. How many people even bother testing out that kind of power to it’s maximum capability?

This particular 1986 Pontiac Trans Am has been on my radar for a few years now.  Built by Pål Arvid Blytt and a resident of Norway, this is a monster that can put fear into Bugatti owners…on their terms at that. It’s run over 250 miles per hour. It’ll 0-62 in 2.23 seconds. It’ll rip the quarter mile somewhere in either the low-eight or nine-second range with ease. It’ll drift in a manner that will leave pretty much everyone envious and as you will see, it will scare the shit out of unwitting journalists who expected it to be a hyped-up American musclecar. It’ll push out an honest 1,400 horsepower, and it’s packing weight. Last we knew, the car weighed over 4,400 pounds, and it still has all the violence of a starving lion.

Be sure to hit the closed-caption button when you watch this video. You will want to see the translation of what is coming out of the German hosts’ mouth. It’s worth it.

Pretty intense T/A (have seen this before). For overkill on a slightly smaller scale you should look up Thomas DeCenzo’s MGB from NY. It has a 632BBC in it, it’s a street car, does bumper dragging wheelies, says he has 5000 street miles on it and still has a stock MGB body on it. I have a 500hp sbc MGB and 800+hp in one sounds pretty insane to me.

And here we hear about Chuck’s brother from another mother who also knows that Chevy powered MGB’s are the greatest automotive pairing ever devised.
