Concept Cars That Should Have Made It…But Didn’t. Seriously, What Were They Thinking?

Concept cars are like a good stripper: great to look at, almost impossible to get your hands on, and if you think you’re going to get one-on-one intimate with one, the pipe dream is about to get a serious clog. Outside of 1990s Chrysler, who were converting concepts and prototypes to production cars faster than the words “Plymouth Prowler” could escape out of the mouths of the press, getting a concept car to a production stage is generally several years, numerous reviews, the eventual inclusion of the safety experts, the government oversight groups and the most loathed of all, the beancounters. It’s honestly why 1990s Chrysler was so jaw-dropping…cars like the Viper, the Neon, the Prowler and the PT Cruiser normally wouldn’t have made it outside of a major auto show, yet they were in showrooms, selling.

But for every one that makes it, there’s about a hundred that don’t. Donut Media has gone through and picked ten that they feel got a bad shake. We have to agree on quite a few of the picks….the Ram T-Rex was a monster and fit the lines of the 1994-01 pickup so well it was spooky, the Dodge Copperhead (oops…”Dodge Concept Car”) would’ve been an affordable little ripper, and the Nissan IDx was a neat little two-door that echoed the Datsun 510 as well as the new Challenger echoes the original Challenger. There are others that should’ve made this list…the Chrysler ME Four-Twelve, the Chrysler Atlantic, the Buick Avista, the Cadillac Sixteen, and the Ford 427 concept all come to mind. But we never even knew about the Mercury Montego (say it with me, James…Mon-tee-go) that they found. Check out the list and see what you think!
