Neat Video: A Plastic Visible V8 Model Gets Spun to Seven Thousand RPM!

Having just ordered one of the classic gearhead toys of all time for my kids, a Revell Visible V8 engine, I went trolling the web for a good video of someone abusing one. Being made completely of plastic, the engines are supposed to rotate slowly, showing how all the parts inside move and work. I found one guy who is spinning them to extreme RPM levels and in the video below the little mill passes 7,000 RPM!

Taking all necessary precautions, the tester placed the motor in a plexi-glass case in the event it completely blew apart. The engine does not survive the test, but the failure is not as spectacular as you’d expect. My favorite part of the video is the sound the mill makes when it really starts spinning. The plastic fantastic sounds really killer at 5,000 revs and up!
