We can say with a degree of certainty that this is the only 18-second drag car that will ever be featured in the BangShift blog. Ironically, it is that 18 second time slip that makes it so damned neat! This is the “High Times” dragster which is powered by a 44ci (no digits missing, we meant forty four) engine from a little Crosley car. That little motor is also sporting an equally cool Pepco blower. The blowers were designed specifically for the teeny Crosley engines and VW mills. They were made in Ohio.
The guys who run this car hit lots of events like the Hunnert Car Heads up that feature fun over all-out elapsed time battles and as you’ll see in the video, they wing the sweet hoo-ha outta this little engine! For some perspective, one cylinder of your “small” 355ci V8 has more displacement than this entire engine!
Could do without the (musical) soundtrack.
‘Glad those guys are having fun with it.
Based on the engine RPM’s through the run, it seems to me a 4, 5, or 6-speed close-ratio transmission coupled with the right rear end gears could really up the li’l thing’s performance…
I missed the only run this rail made at the Hunnert Car event. He blew the trans on that pass. The owner is an encyclopedia of Crosley knowledge, and a heck of a nice guy.
He also told me while there are lots of things that could make it faster, in the Crosley community theres a sense of pride doing this with a full Crosley drivetrain.
Sounds like just switching to a lower ratio rear gear would help it out considerably. He barely gets into 3rd gear before crossing the line.
what happened to the supercharger when it went down the track
One question: Why?
only one guy noticed that the blower was gone when it went done the track! come on really they showed it with one before and after. run it with the blower and better rear end gear.
