Corrosion Reverso: Banishing The Rusty And Crusty Out Of The Front End Of A Fiero

If you’ve worked on a car that’s more than a few years old, chances are good that what’s underneath that pretty skin looks…well, let’s be nice and say “horrifying”. Rusty, dusty, grease-coated, flaking metal that should be clean and straightforward is the normal, and may God have mercy on your soul if you’re a rust-belter or live near salt water. More often than not, there’s two actions that are usually chosen when faced with grungy, crispy suspension components:

  1. Ignore everything and just move on, or
  2. Get a can of flat black, hose everything that looks like raw hell, and move on.

Did that one hit a bit close to home? Hey, don’t feel bad. The stuff underneath needs to work, not look pretty. Fixing broken clamps or a sway bar that is separating into layers like desert-roasted ironwood is a need…pretty A-arms are not, especially when you are going to stuff a big dose of grease into the ball joint.

Those that take on this kind of detail work either do it for the love of the job or are charging a healthy fee for their services. Ronnie here is doing it all for the love of his 1985 Pontiac Fiero restoration project. Does that call his sanity into question? Maybe. But his work ethic and skill can’t be called out…the dude does good work. Enjoy…
