Back in the day, you could go to your local hot rod or speed shop and have louvers pressed into parts of all kinds. Local hot rodders would bring in hoods and fenders and more, all in search of raising the bar on the cool factor of their own rides. We’ve known guys who have louver presses in their shops and these are heavy duty and cool old school machines that simultaneously shear and form little bitty scoops into metal. It is getting more and more rare to find someone who can punch louvers, so when we found this video showing how to make your own louver press, we though we needed to share.
Take a look, because this one is pretty simple. We think you can make this in a day and be punching louvers in everything you can get your hands on. What do you think?
The initial pressure sure deflects that English wheel. I would worry that it would cause a permanent spread or crack a weld.
He has the top of the English Wheel supported by the ceiling. He talked about that in a previous video.
Simple louver press…take one mill, one lathe… add a mig welder AND an English wheel as you too can have … Buy an arbor press from Harbor F and louver dies from….Viola!!
Nice to see a young man who’s life hasn’t been completely overtaken by computer games, energy drinks and a bags of Skittles!
