BangShift Project Files: This V-10 Powered Fairmont Is One Stuffed Fox!

Ford could’ve had so much fun with the 6.8L V-10 if they really wanted to. The 412ci ten-hole unit usually gets relegated to the trucks and vans,  and while it made alright power, it didn’t make anything really earth-shattering. They were meant to be workhorse mills that provided an alternative to diesel-powered heavy-duty power generators, not as a sincere alternative to the Viper’s V-10, for example. Concept cars previewed a possibility of turbocharged greatness, but other than some awesome footage of a mule New Edge Mustang ripping it’s rear tires apart at the drop of a hat, not much came out of it in the real world.

The 6.8 is a Mod motor in design. While that doesn’t mean you have to just get a Coyote swap kit and nut-and-bolt your way to glory, it does mean that the path isn’t as difficult as many would think. It’s very do-able…engines are all over the place, in E-series vans, in trucks, and in school buses, and happily there still isn’t a shortage of Fox bodies available. So if you get the urge to stuff a ten-cylinder into a Mustang, or an LTD, or a Thunderbird, just know that others have made the job happen and can help you with your own shoehorning fun. We’ve recently had this 1980 Ford Fairmont pop up in the Forums, and if you have questions, this individual is more than ready to answer your queries!
