Video: Dan Wilkerson Walks Away From Wild Funny Car Wreck in Memphis

Dan Wilkerson, nitro Funny Car racer, and son of nitro Funny Car racer Tim Wilkerson was involved in a violent and bizarre crash at the rain delayed NHRA Mid-South Nationals, held at Memphis Motorsports Park, in Millington, Tennesee. Wilkerson walked away from the wreckage, but the cause has yet to be determined.

Noted drag racing journalist Rob Geiger was on the scene and reporting for his website Go2Geiger.com. The photos from the crash show that both of the rear tires were off the car before it struck the wall. This of course raises questions as to how they were fastened, what caused them to come off, and how it can be prevented in the future.

As Rob reports in his story, Wilkerson was able to exit the destroyed car under his own power, and did not need to seek any medical assistance. Dan runs a limited schedule, his dad runs the full tour and is in a partnership with Bob Tasca’s Funny Car operation.

The Wilkersons have long been fan favorites, with Tim competing strongly running only one car in a sea of multi-car, highly funded teams. We’re glad to hear that Dan is ok.

Here’s a bootleg video of the incident:
