Down To Earth: The Hoonigans Drop This C10 Into The Weeds Properly

I’ve always entertained a thought: How would someone who normally isn’t interested in cars work over their first project car? I look at my friend Clay, who I’ve known for this kind of circumstance: he’s a great writer, is brilliant with computer work and in one of his past exploits, even worked for Mecum Auctions for a time. But when it comes to cars…ugh. Pontiac Grand Am, Pontiac Sunfire, Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. Get the idea? He did own my LeBaron for about a year when I first went into the Army, but he managed to blow up the rear axle. What would happen if he suddenly wanted to work with his hands building a car? I’ve known Clay since second grade and I still can’t wrap my head around how that would happen.

Zac, one of the most energetic of the Hoonigans, isn’t normally a car or truck type. His fleet is bikes, Harleys to be precise. But recently, he bit the bullet and decided to pick up a truck that could haul a bike around if need be. The 1974 Chevrolet he scored is a neat little shortbed half-ton, but dead stock wasn’t going to get things done. He’s already done work to the engine, retrofitting a fuel-injection setup onto the 350 under the hood, but in this episode, it’s all about getting low. Do you remember the 1990s, when everybody and their mother had a C/K truck that was slammed into the weeds on BellTech equipment? Remember how all of that went together? If you don’t, prepare to get a reminder of the good old days of frame notching and drop spindles!
