Drag Video: Check Out A Cool Right Hand Drive Second Generation Monte Carlo Making Laps In Australia – Small Tire…Big Car!

Second generation Chevy Monte Carlos are a pretty rare sight at American drag strips but they have to be about like unicorns in Australia. This video stands as proof that there is at least one guy down under who has a right hand drive second generation Monte and that saide car has some suds! This big heavy Chevy manages to run low 9s at 150-mph on its best pass in the featured video below. For a long time we weren’t fans of these “Collonade era” Montes but the fact is that they’re kind of growing on us. We’ve seen tons of first generation, third, and fourth Monte Carlos ripping down quarter miles but honestly, we can’t ever remember seeing a single “second gen” doing anything but cruising by on the street.

With a 400ci small block Chevy and what look to be 275 Mickey Thompson drag radials bolted to the back, this car hangs the front end pretty good and charges like a real devil at the top end of the race track. We dig the Aussie term for a large car as they call it a, “house and land package”. That’s better than our typical “land barge” or “sled” description used here in the USA. The car looks to be a handful because on ever lap the body is way hunkered over and the driver is definitely earning his pay in the seat keeping it off the walls. That bad boy seems to really want to hunt around. Our favorite part of the styling on this car is the taillight treatment. They look trick tucked into the corners of the body and the indicators seem to hook around at the bottom.

This is a way “dare to be different” approach. Different car…different continent!
